What is a Registered Dietitian?

A Registered Dietitian is someone who has a university degree in nutrition from an accredited university program and hours of supervised, hands-on training through a completed Dietetic Internship.

Just like all regulated health professionals, dietitians are required to practice ethically and to complete annual professional development to make sure their skills are up to date.

What Does a Dietitian Do?

Registered Dietitians work with you to help you feel your best! They take complex medical and nutrition research and translate it into practical solutions to make it easier for you to make daily food choices and plan healthy meals.

The advice and information they provide is tailored to you and your needs, with them helping you and providing nutritional support every step of the way. They can show you how healthy eating can be fun, enjoyable and delicious!

Why Choose a Registered Dietitian?

The terms “Nutritionist” or “Registered Nutritionist” are not protected terms in New Brunswick. This means that anybody can call themselves a nutritionist and there are NO standards for their quality of care.

You wouldn’t ask a celebrity how to build a safe bridge, you’d ask a professional engineer. Same as you wouldn’t ask a neighbour for medical advice, you’d ask a medical doctor. The same thinking should apply for nutrition advice.

By choosing a Registered Dietitian you ensure that you are getting accurate and appropriate information from a professional who is accountable for his or her knowledge and expertise. With a Registered Dietitian you can trust that you’ll receive a high quality service from an expert in the field.
